STEP-W CLASSIFICATION FOR SUBMUCOSAL FIBROIDS ON TRANSVAGINAL ULTRASOUND
Objetivos
To show how the assessment of the STEP-W classification for submucosal fibroids can be included in the transvaginal ultrasound examination.
Casuística e Métodos
Video demonstration narrated step by step of ultrasound assessment for submucosal fibroids in transvaginal ultrasound following the approach recommended by the LASMAR / STEP-W scoring system for submucosal fibroids.
Resultados e Discussão
Uterine myomas are the most common tumors found in the female genital tract. Submucous myomas are those that most frequently cause menorrhagia and infertility. In these cases, a hysteroscopic myomectomy is a therapeutic option for patients with abnormal uterine bleeding and/or infertility where there is the need to cause as little myometrial damage as possible. In 2005, Lasmar et al. published an article on a new classification for the description of submucosal fibroids seen by hysteroscopy. However, submucosal fibroids can be well evaluated on transvaginal ultrasonography and demonstrated in video form.
Objective: To show how the assessment of the STEP-W classification for submucosal fibroids can be included in the transvaginal ultrasound examination.
Design: Video demonstration narrated step by step of ultrasound assessment for submucosal fibroids in transvaginal ultrasound following the approach recommended by the LASMAR / STEP-W scoring system for submucosal fibroids.
An ultrasound description of submucosal fibroids was demonstrated according to the STEP-W classification (size, topography, extent, penetration, and wall) .
Conclusões
The STEP-W classification of submucosal fibroids can be described using transvaginal ultrasonography; furthermore, it allows better prediction in hysteroscopic myomectomy.
